FREEDOM FIGHTERS HOOP CHALLENGE!: TEANECK, NEWARK EASTSIDE, HACKENSACK AND POPE JOHN WIN!

Don Bosco Academy Paterson,N.J…. The 15th Annual Paterson Recreation and Playaz sponsored Freedom Fighters Hoop Challenge had four top flight contests and saw Teaneck, Newark Eastside, Hackensack and Pope John pull off vic031tories!

Tonight was the debut of Senior guard Leondre Washington(right) after sitting 30 days on the transfer rule! He did not disappoint and his backcourtmate Junior Ja’Quaye James led the party with a spectacular performance himself! Washington scored 28 points, dished out 6 assists with 2 steals and James went off for 40 points, including 11″triples”! After a close 18-13 1st quarter lead, Teaneck took off from there taking a 43-24 lead at the half and never looked back! DePaul was led by Freshman Zion Bethea with 16 points and Freshman Elijah Hutchins-Everett with 13 points and 11 rebounds! James and Hutchins-Everett were chosen Players of the Game!

Stony Brook commit Eli Olaniyi scored 19 points and Junior Jahid Jenkins added 15 points to lead Newark Eastside to a hard fought 61-52 win over Immaculate Conception! I.C. led at the half 26-22, but Newark Eastside took the lead early in the 3rd and held a small lead throughout the second half! Junior Hassan Ceesay added 10 points for Newark Eastside! Immaculate was led by Junior Justin Winston with 17 points  and 9 rebounds and Junior D.J. Mitchell added 11 points and Junior Jalen Carey chipped in 10! Olaniyi and Winston were chosen Players of the Game!

Senior Bryce Drakeford scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Junior’s Atiba Taylor and Toren Portee scored 16 points apiece to lead Hackensack to a 70-60 win over Barringer! Junior Razeyah Surrell added 13 points and 8 rebounds for the Comets! James McNeil led Barringer with 18 points and Junior Luis Curiel had 11 points and 11 rebounds! Hackensack and Barringer played a nip and tuck battle the whole way with Hackensack coming up big in the end behind Drakeford and Taylor! Drakeford and McNeil were chosen Players of the Game!

 

 

                                                             034POPE JOHN  70    PATERSON KENNEDY 57

Junior Aaron Clarke scored 29 points to lead Pope John to a 70-57 win over Paterson Kennedy! Clarke got help from Sophomore Jack Cavanaugh with 15 points, Senior Andrew Ward with 13 points and 7 rebounds and Junior Samba Diallo with 8 points and 11 rebounds! Kennedy made a big comeback after being down double figures as Sophomore Gemir Robinson came off the bench to ignite a Kennedy run! Junior Jaylen Colon led the scoring for Kennedy with 18 points and Robinson finished with 13 ,including 4 “triples”! Clarke and Robinson were chosen Players of the Game!
