MEL HENDERSON SHOWCASE RESULTS: RAMAPO, DON BOSCO PREP, HACKENSACK, KENNEDY AND EAST ORANGE WIN!

007Hackensack,N.J….. In a great day of Highschool basketball, the 3rd Annual Mel Henderson Showcase had good games throughout! When all was done Ramapo, Don Bosco Prep, Hackensack, Kennedy and East Orange all came away with wins!

                                                     RAMAPO  78          DWIGHT MORROW(ENGLEWOOD)  71  2OT

The best game of the day saw Ramapo look like it was down and out and fight back to tie the game twice, then eventually pull out the win in the second overtime against Dwight Morrow 78-71! Senior Jason Oppler scored 27 points and Junior K.C. Hunt scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Ramapo’s comeback! Ramapo trailed by as much as 6 points with 35 seconds left in the first overtime, but missed free throws and turnovers gave Ramapo a chance as they sent the game into double overtime as with 6 seconds left Ramapo went coast to coast as Hunt found Oppler down the lane to tie the game at 63! Ramapo took the air out of Dwight Morrow and went on to get the 78-71 win! Senior John Whooley finished with 11 points for Ramapo! Junior Owen Roberts led Dwight Morrow with 21 points and 8 rebounds while Senior Macio Robinson made 4 “triples” and finished with 14 points and Senior George Garrison added 13 points! Oppler and Roberts were chosen Player of the Game!

For one half Dwight-Englewood played hard and kept Don Bosco Prep at bay leading at the end of the first half stanza 28-26! But the 2nd half was a different story as Prep  held D-E to 4 points in the third quarter and took complete control eventually winning 62-46! Senior Marcellus Earlington scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Rutgers commit Ron Harper added 23 points and 8 rebounds to lead Prep to the win! Junior Jordan McKoy was harassed thoughout but still managed 15 points to lead Dwight-Englewood! Senior Tony DeBellis chipped in 11 points! Earlington and McKoy were chosen Players of the Game!

 

 

                                                  010HACKENSACK  83      OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN(NY)  62

Senior B.J. Saliba scored 23 points with 7 rebounds and Youngstown St. commit Atiba Taylor added 18 points and 6 assists as Hackensack was impressive in their 83-62 win over New York’s Our Savior Lutheran! Junior Jelani Bowden made 3 “triples” and scored 11 points and Senior Toren Portee added 10 points as 8 Hackensack players scored in the contest! Senior Craig Philip Jr led Our Savior with 17 points and Junior Payton Hudson added 14 points! Saliba and Philip Jr. were chosen Players of the Game!

 

                                                                   009KENNEDY  67     ST. JOSEPH(MONTVALE)  52

Senior Jaylen Colon scored 28 points with 4 assists and Junior Avant’e Gilbert added 13 points to lead Kennedy to a 67-52 win over St. Joe’s! Kennedy took a 21-4 first quarter lead and never looked back or were threatened! Senior Jamir Lattimore scored 9 points, pulled down 7 rebounds with 3 steals and Sophomore Jalen Hargrove scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds! Junior Smith Vilbert led St. Joe’s with 14 points and 14 rebounds, Junior Chris Manon added 14 points and Senior Steve Sanders chipped in 11 points! Colon and Vilbert were chosen Players of the Game!

 

 

                                                               006EAST ORANGE  71      UNION CATHOLIC 69   OT

Junior Supreme Cook scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Senior Dimitri Austin had 25 points and his assistto Mario Gunn gave East Orange a 71-69 overtime win! Austin had made a “triple” to send the game into the overtime at 61 all! Junior Justin Archer led Union Catholic with  18 points and 10 rebounds and Senior Ibn Lynn added 14 points, as did Sophomore Gio Philips! Cook and Archer were chosen Players of the Game!
