Eastside Moves On 71-55

Eastside may be peaking at just the right time. Led by the guard play of Karon Abraham and Bryant Lewis the Ghosts controlled an entertaining game who’s final score was not indicative of how close the contest was. Whenever a play was needed Abraham or Lewis provided. Both players scored 20 points while Abraham added 3assists,2 steals and a blocked shot and Lewis contributed 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Kennedy got an outstanding performance from Davian Plunkett who finished with 21 points,16rebounds and 4 blocked shots, but besides Laquan Peterkin(14pts,7rebs) the Knights never got consistent play from their other teammates,as Shondell Stewart and Daquere Hayes, Kennedy’s dynamic backcourt never could get on track throughout the game. Neither player scored even though they had a combined average of 28 points a game. Despite that, Kennedy stayed within striking distance thanks to good bench play from Quadir Leary(7pts,5asts,2stls) and freshman Dwan Lighty(9pts,2stls). The lead was cut to 56-51 when workhorse David Robertson(13pts,10rebs) hit a free throw and Eastside closed the game out on a 15 to 4 run. The ghosts will now face the #1 seeded Passaic Highschool in the semifinals of the group 4 sectionals friday. Note: Junior Antoine Alexander has been a big factor off the bench for Eastside as he gives them good perimeter play with surprising rebounding skills for his size. Eastside had a combined 16 steals to give Kennedy alot of problems getting into their offense.
