FALLBALL RESULTS: ST. ANTHONY’S AND ST.PETERS PREP WALK AWAY WITH “CHIPS”!!!

012Kennedy Highschool, Paterson,N.J….. The conclusion of the Playaz Basketball Club and Paterson Recreation sponsored Wednesday and Monday FallBall Leagues came to an end with perennial power St. Anthony’s and St. Peters Prep taking home the Title from their respective Leagues!

St. Anthony’s Senior Tarin Smith, who was probably the most consistent player in the Wednesday League scored 15 points and he got help from Sophomore Taurean Thompson(upper right) who chipped in 13 points and was a double figure rebounder with 11 boards as the Friars defeated St. Benedict’s 57-42 to win the Wednesday Night FallBall Le013ague! St. Anthony’s as always had a deep team that got contributions from many of their players, such as Senior Boston U. commit Cheddi Mosely, Sophomore Jagan Mosely, Junior Markis McDuffie and Junior Mohammed Bendary to name a few! St. Benedict’s was led by Junior Kamar McKnight’s 12 points. St. Anthony’s reached the finals by defeating Newark Eastside 53-39 as Smith led the scoring with 22 points! Seton Hall commit Ismael Sonago led Newark Eastside with 16 points! St. Benedict’s beat Teaneck 76-63 to reach the “Chip”! With the score tied at 55 Benedict’s went on a 10-0 run to pull ahead! V.C.U. commit Jonathan Williams led the scoring with 23 points, McKnight had 20 points and Junior Elijah Cain added 16 points! Teaneck was led by Senior Lavrone Green-Reels with 14 points, Junior Ceasar DeJesus with 11 and Senior Corey Brown with 10 points!

St. Peters Prep and Newark Eastside each had to overcome deficits in their Semifinals matchups for the right to 016meet each other in the Finals and in the end St. Peters Prep had more left in the tank! Senior Austin White scored 22 points and Sophomore Armaveer Singh added 11 points to lead Prep to a 61-52 win over Tech! Prep kept a slight lead most of the contest and held on for the “Chip”! Nwark Tech showcased their young backcourt as Sophomore Mustafa Lawrence led the scoring with 19 points, while Freshman R.J. Cole added 12! The Semi’s for both teams were won on exciting finishes! Down by as much as 19 points White hit a “triple” to cut the lead down to one and Sophomore Najaa Hunter hit a floater in the lane with 2 seconds left to lift Prep to a 53-52 win over Bergen Catholic! Junior Justin Salem led B.C. with 18 points and Sophomore Gilberto Cue added 16! Newark Tech came from behind against Christian Brothers Academy as Senior Tyree Sykes put back on a offensive rebound gave Tech a 44-43 win at the buzzer! Lawrence again led the scoring with 21 points, while Sophomore Pat Andree led CBA with 13 points!

 

 

NOTES: New York Giant and Playaz Basketball Club alum Victor Cruz was in the building tonight! On a personal note R.I.P. Maynard Freeman. You will be missed!!!
