FREEDOM FIGHTERS HOOP CHALLENGE: NEWARK EASTSIDE, MONTCLAIR IMMACULATE, NEWARK CENTRAL AND PATERSON KENNEDY WIN!

Don Bosco Tech Academy Paterson, N.J….. The Paterson Recreation sponsored Freedom FDSC00960ighters Hoop Challenge in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King had four games played in which Newark Eastside, Montclair Immaculate, Newark Central and Kennedy all came away with wins!

                                              NEWARK EASTSIDE  54    PATERSON CHARTER  48

Monmouth commit Mikah Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds and Sophomore guard David Olaniyi(#4)got to the basket at will on his way to a 20 point contest, including the bucket to put Newark Eastside the lead for good as they outlasted a tough Paterson Charter tDSC00961eam! Charter led at the half 23-16, but Newark Eastside went on a 7-0 run to start the 2nd half to tie the game up as  Johnson started the quarter with all 7 points! Senior Caleb Ruffin led Charter with 9 points and 7 rebounds and Senior Troy Medlock added 10 points! Johnson and Ruffin were named Players of the Game!(with director Keila Brevard)

 

 

                       MONTCLAIR IMMACULATE  80    NEWARK WEST SIDE  58

Junior Amar’e Marshall scored 21 points, Hofstra commit Zion Bethea scored 20 points, pulled down 8 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and had 5 steals, Junior Zakai Zeigler hDSC00956ad a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists and Junior Jayden Brown chipped in 14 points as Montclair Immaculate rolled past Newark West Side 80-58! IC took a 26-11 first quarter lead and never looked back! Senior Troy Rodwell led Newark with a strong 26 point, 9 rebound effort! Bethea and Rodwell were chosen Players of the Game! 

 

 

 

 

                                      NEWARK CENTRAL  52     PATERSON EASTSIDE  41

Senior David French scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Senior Akil Domino added 10 points to lead Newark Central to a 52-41 win over Paterson EasDSC00958tside! Newark Central trailed at the end of the 3rd quarter 34-31, but outscored Eastside 21-7 to come away with the win!Eastside was led Sophomore Coz’jeir Harmon with 15 points, Senior Daizon Pauldo added 11 and Sophomore O’Shamiar Majette finished with 8 points and 13 rebounds! French and Harmon were Players of the Game!

 

 

 

 

                                                           KENNEDY  70    PAYNE TECH  52

Kennedy had four players in double figures as they defeated Payne Tech 70-52! Senior Deishon Harrison led the way with 16 points, while Senior Mark Heber scored 14 and Sophomore Jay’Quan Briggs and Senior Jalen Hargrove scored 12 points apiece! KenneDSC00953dy took a close game and pulled away in the final quarter! Senior Zaire Jefferson led Payne Tech with 14 points and Senior Ibn Everett added 11! Harrison and Jefferson were chosen Players of the Game!
