Gill St. Bernards 6’1 point guard has committed to Northwestern University! While his decision was made a week ago Hoop Journal wanted to get the decision and why from the horses mouth! Jaren who is a tremendous shooter with great range told the Journal his decision came to a choice between Alabama and Northwestern and besides the academics his decision to attend Northwestern was based on” his desire to play in the Big 10 and the opportunity to get major minutes as a freshman!” Hoop Journal would like to congratulate Jaren, father Mergin, mother Jill and sister Jasmin who is a baller in her own right on his decision and hope for nothing but the best for the future!

NEWARK EASTSIDE WINS PLAYAZ CLUB “JUST JUNE” LEAGUE!

Paterson,N.J………… The Playaz Club ran their annual” Just June” league for the month of June and Newark Eastside prevailed over Hackensack 47-38! Sophomore Ahmad Harrison led the scoring with 14 points along with Senior Ishmael Sanogo(pictured) who was voted MVP of the league! Hackensack was led by Senior Fugene Marshall who scored 10 points! East Side reached the finals by defeating Hudson Catholic 26-25 as the Hawks played without Senior Reggie Cameron and Sophomore Nassir Barrino! Hackensack reached the finals by beating Teaneck 70-68 and overcoming a 38 point effort from Senior Shakir Lindsey, who played without Senior Joel Hernandez!

New Heights 14u, Playaz 13u Win “BLOW UP”!

Kennedy H.S.,Paterson,N.J…… It looked as though the Playaz 13u team was on their way to the Championship game of the Playaz sponsored Blow Up tournament against St.Michaels but New Heights had other ideas as with 1.7 seconds left in the game Baron Goodridge made a desperation “triple” off the glass to give New Heights a shocking 70-69 win! They took that momentum into the “chip” and held on to beat St. Michaels 55-50 to win the “Blow Up”! In the Semis, Marquel Drakeford and Nakye Sanders led New Heights with 16 and 15 points respectively! Goodridge finished with 12! The Playaz were led by Nahrique Smith with 18 points, Patrick Andree 17, Alphonso Gee 14 and Najaa Hunter added 12! St. Michaels got to the “Chip” by defeating Connecticut Elite 57-55 as Patrick Stzulza scored 14 points and Marcus McClary scored 11! Dyaire Holt led Elite with 14! In the finals Anthony Munson led Heights with 14 points while Goodridge added 11 points and Drakeford scored 10! McClary led St.Michaels with 13 points!

 

 

 

                    The Playaz 13u team prevailed against New Heights 13u in the “Chip” 56-55! Taj Benning led the scoring with 17 points, while Jason Graham scored 11 points and Tyson Etienne added 9 points! Nyonty Wisseh led New Heights with 11 points! The Playaz reached the finals by defeating the Jersey Boys Club 60-49 as Graham scored 21 points! Kahmonie Foster finished with 12 points for Boys Club! New Heights reached the “Chip” by defeating Philly Freedom 42-31 as Keith Williams scored 11 points to lead Heights! The 13u Playaz team consisted of Graham, Benning, Etienne, Isaiah Robinson, Jaiyer Jinwright, Elijah Mitchell, Nhazir Smith, Dalyn Wade, Nadir Pineda, Xavier Townes and Bryce Drakeford!
