Team Takeover And Brooklyn Rens Win Spring Fling Phase III !

Wayne, New Jersey,…… In Phase 3 of the Playaz sponsored Spring Fling 15u Team Takeover of D.C. and the Brooklyn Rens 17u took home the “Chip”:

                         Marcus Derrickson(left) scored 23 points to lead Team Takeover to the 20 point win over a good Team Scan 87-67! Franklin Howard added 17 points to offset the 25 point game by Scan’s Arron Ray, 20 points from Chris Aikens  and 17 points from Chancelor Ellis! Derrrickson was voted the M.V.P. while Ray won the Sportsman award! It marked the second champion for Takeover as the 16u won last week! 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                  BROOKLYN RENS  64              LONG ISLAND LIGHTNING  61   OT

              Wayne Martin’s 21 points led the way in a overtime thriller for the Brooklyn Ren’s 64-61 win over the Long Island Lightning! Martin’s(far left) and one late in overtime proved to be the difference! The Ren’s had to overcome the play of 6’9 sensation Kuran Iverson(right) who scored 12 points and was active inside and out and also the play of 6’2 guard Dayshon Smith! The game was tied at 55 going into the extra session as Smith hit a “triple” to send the game into overtime! Martin was named M.V.P. while Iverson got the Sportsman award!

 

 

 

                                 NOTE:     The Playaz 15u lost to the N.Y. Lightning  70-57 in the quarterfinals as 6’9 Jesse Govan scored 14 of his 16 points in the 2nd half! Isaiah Briscoe scored 27 points but tired late as he was an iron man during the weekend playing 5 games in one day! The  Playaz 16’s finished 3-1 in pool play of the 17u but didn’t reach the playoffs on points! Briscoe also led that squad! The 16’s also got good play from Marques Townes, Jordan Forehand, Alex Thomas and Shakur Juiston! The 17’s lost to the Lightning in the semifinals 56-54! Mike Young led the Playaz with 16 points! Before the Semi’s the Playaz 17’s had a load of players that played well! Reggie Cameron shot the lights out all week as did Joel Hernandez! Kavon Stewart, Karonn Davis and Neville Fincher also impressed during the week! And they played shorthanded most of the tournament as guard Shane Rector was down with a bum ankle!

 

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                                            

Don Bosco Prep’s Todmann Chooses East Stroudsburg!

             Don Bosco Prep’s 6’8 bigman Dajon Todmann has verballed to East Stroudsburg University! Todmann chose the division 2 school due to the relationship he has developed with the coaching staff, particularly Assistant coach Justin Potts! East Stroudsburg is coming off a 20-12 record and a league title and are looking for big things in the future from Dajon! Hoop Journal would like to congratulate Dajon, his mother Barbara, sister Deja and brother Darion on his decision and hope for nothing but the best in the future!

Team Takeover And Team Scan Win Springfling!

Wayne,N.J……..The Playaz sponsored Springfling Phase 2 event brought out tremendous talent from around the east coast and in the end Team Takeover from out of Washington D.C. won the 16u group against the host team Playaz and Team Scan won the 14u portion of the tournament by defeating New Generation(Boo Williams) of Virginia:

                      D.C.’s Takeover shot the lights out in their win over the Playaz as Martinas Geben led the effort with 25 points, including 3 triples! Guard Tre Campbell who added 12 points and was named Tournament M.V.P. as Takeover pulled the “Chip” off for the second consecutive year! The Playaz were led by St. Benedicts Isaiah Briscoe with 22 points and Hackensack’s Rashard Figures with 17 points! The Playaz cut the lead to 8 in the 2nd half but Takeover again went on a 11-0 run to pull away! Takeover got to the “Chip” by beating Albany City 69-53 while the Playaz pulled off an overtime thriller over Boo Williams 75-74 as Briscoe finished with 21 points, Cardinal McCarrick’s Marques Townes 15, Figures 14 and Don Bosco Prep’s Tom Sweeny added 13!

                       Team Scan blew out Boo Williams(New Generation) 81-50 as Temple Gibbs scored 14 points, Bryce Aikens and Unique McClean each scored 13 points in the Gold 14’s “Chip”! Mcclean was chosen M.V.P. of the Tournament as Scan also got a strong weekend of play from 6’7 Kassoum Yakwe! He was a force defensively as he blocked or changed shots the entire tournament! Devonte Carter scored 11 points for Boo Williams in the lost! Scan reached the “chip” by defeating the Rens of New York 72-59, while Boo Williams beat D.C. Assault 67-47!
