DePaul Outlasts Bergen Catholic 73-69!

Written by Cameron on . Posted in Garden State Hoops

Wayne, N.J…………. Down 31-28 at the half, a sluggish DePaul team needed a spark to start the 2nd half against Bergen Catholic! The spark came from the play of Junior guard Josh Marquez! Marquez(right) was a part of the first 16 points scored by DePaul in the 3rd as he either scored or assisted on each point! His start ignited a big 26-14 3rd quarter which gave DePaul a 54-45 lead to end the stanza! It also brought to life his teammates as Senior Davon Jacobs, Sophomore Juwuan Carter, Senior Max Aronson, Junior Sanders Green and Sophomore Kiy Hester all played key roles the rest of the way in the 73-69 win! Bergen Catholic would not quit and behind the play of Senior Chuck Wingate and strong bench play from Junior Kyle Quiero and Junior John Tsimis they cut the lead to 55-52 when Aronson drained a”triple” to push the score to 58-52! Quiero again cut the lead to 3 as he made a steal and scored on a layup to make it 68-65 with 1:03 left! But Green and Carter knocked down free throws late to seal the game! Marquez finished with 18 points,10 assists,7 rebounds and 3 steals, Jacobs did his thing with 17 points,12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots, and Carter scored 15 points, including hitting a 40 footer at the end of the 3rd! Bergen was led by Wingate with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Senior Rich DeLuca with 13 and Tsimis and Quiero with 11 and 10 points respectively! DEPaul will see if they can take the good feelings to their Passaic County Tournament game against West Milford Saturday! Bergen Catholic will get ready for Tenafly Sunday in the Bergen County Jamboree

Teaneck Stays #1 In Area With 53-45 Win Over #2 Eastside!

Written by Cameron on . Posted in Garden State Hoops

Teaneck,N.J…….. The #1 and #2 teams got together tonight and though it was a sloppily played game, Teaneck proved to still be the top dog in the area! On this night point guard Shakir Lindsey(right) was the best player on the floor! Lindsey was a problem for the Ghosts on the offensive and defensive end! He scored 23 points with 5 assists and 5 steals and harrassed Eastside’s guards the entire contest! His contribution was important because Eastside had the game being played at the pace that they wanted as Teaneck could never get out on the fast break and aside from a few gorgeous moves held their leading scorer Senior Chris Jones to 7 points! Eastside’s main problem was turnovers and number of missed layups as Teaneck Junior Neville Fincher blocked two shots, but more importantly altered many more! Eastside cut the lead to 8 in the 3rd but allowed the Highwayman to go on a  10-2 run to end the quarter and build their biggest lead of the game 43-27! Teaneck led in the 1st half 24-15 as Junior Joel Hernandez scored 10 of his 15 points and rocked the crowd with a thunderous dunk in the 3rd! Eastside was led by Senior DeAndre Noble-Haywood with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Junior Jetor Brown added 10! Teaneck improved it’s record to 19 -0 and Eastside fell to 15-2!
