Paterson Catholic was outscored 22-7 in the fourth quarter by Plainfield Highschool which resulted in a 73-61 Cardinals win in the Hoop Group Tipoff Classic at Seton Hall University.Down 54-51 at the end of the third quarter and trailing most of the game, Plainfield came out with a purpose in the fourth. Sophomore Tyrone Johnson (16pts., 8 rebs., 5 assts.), junior Isaiah Epps (24 pts., 4 rebs., 2 assts.)and senior Anthony Baskerville (21 pts., 5 stls.), probably the best backcourt trio in the state, came out determined and played with a swagger that was too much for the cold shooting Cougars to overcome. Paterson Catholic led throughout most of the game behind the solid play of Fordham recruit Lance Brown (12pts., 9 rebs.) and sophomore Myles Mack (17 pts., 3assts., 2stls.) but the solid, consistent play was lacking in the fourth. The Cougars held leads of 10 and 8 points throughout but never showed the killer instinct to take Plainfield out of the game. Senior Khalid Muhammad contributed 8 points and 7 rebounds for Plainfield, while Paterson Catholic got 10 points, 6 boards and 3 blocks from Trevor Clemmings. P.C.’s Jayon James finished with 6 assists. Paterson Catholic’s Brown and Plainfield’s Epps were named outstanding players of the game for their respective teams.
