PLAYAZ BASKETBALL CLUB AT BOO WILLIAMS!

036Hampton, Va…. The Playaz Basketball Club went down to Virginia where they participated in the Nike EYBL for the 17s and a place in the Peach Jam and an opportunity for the 15s and 16s to also reach the Peach Jam in their age group!

For the weekend the Playaz came away with a “chip” for the 16s, a semifinals appearance for the 15s and a 2-2 record for the 17s as they fight to advance the Nike EYBL League for a Peach Jam spot in North Augusta, S.C.!

The Playaz 16s had to go through two overtimes , but eventually outlasted CP3 78-73 to take the “Ch038ip” at Boo Williams! Tavon Jones(left) led the way with 21 points, while Jalen Carey(right) scored 18 of his 20 points in the 2nd half! Marquis Nowell(center) scored 18 points, including 5 “triples” and Ja’Quaye James added 9 points with the clinching free throws! The Playaz picked up the energy of the game behind the high energy activity of Saviour Akuwovo! He was particularly impressive on the defensive end as he grabbed 13 rebounds and 8 blocks, including 2 big ones late in the contest! The Playaz trailed at the half 31-24 , but came back in the second half! The score was tied at 62 at the end of regulation and 70 at the end of the first overtime! Carey scored the first bucket of the second overtime and they held on to the end!

 

The 15s lost a tight one 75-71 in overtime to Athlete’s Of Tomorrow as Isaac Okoro le013d them with 29 points! The Playaz got 20 points from Al-Amir Dawes and 14 points from Paul Mulcahy! Cartier Bowman who is their best interior offensive player injured his thigh and was unable to go in the second half which proved crucial! Bowman had been having a big tournament! The Playaz Gold 17s went 2-2 on the weekend in their EYBL League play! They took the first game of the weekend 75-67 as Jamir Harris led the attack with 23 points, R.J. 026Cole added 18 and Leondre Washington chipped in 13 points with 8 assists! They then defeated BABC as Justin Minaya led a balanced scoring game with 12 points! Cole and Harris added 11 points apiece and Marcus McClary chipped in 10 points! Things took a turn for the worst in their next two as lost a 82-75 game to Las Vegas Prospects! They lost despite 22 points from Harris, 20 from Cole 15 from McClary and 12 from Washington! They then finished the weekend with a 62-47 lost to Expressions Elite! The Patrick Schools Nick Richards scored 8 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for the Expressions! Washington led the Playaz with 22 points while Harris added 13! Harris(far right), Cole(right) and Jamir Thomas had good weekends for the Playaz as Thomas proved tough in the paint area!
