PLAYAZ SPRING FLING TOURNAMENT: PLAYAZ GOLD 17’s, TEAM TAKEOVER 16’s AND NEW YORK RENS 15’s WIN “CHIPS”!

Hoop Group Neptune, N.J…. The Playaz annual sponsored Spring Fling Event took place to kick off the 2017 AAU season and while teams are still works in progress the Playaz gold 17’s, Maryland’s Team Takeover 16’s and New York Rens 15’s emerged with “Chips”!

The Playaz Gold  captured the 17u Spring Fling title in a heated affair against New Heights of New York! The game was close the whole way with each team taking leads multiple times in the contest! The Playaz finally took the lead for keeps on a “triple” from Justin Minaya which gave them a 56-55 lead! Minaya finished with 11 points as he and Jalen Carey led the Playaz scoring! Carey(right) was voted the Tournament MVP! Paul Mulcahy finished with 10 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds for the Playaz and Tavon Jones added 8 points! Saviour Akuwovo was a stalwart on the defensive end , blocking 6 New Heights shots! New Heights was led by Marquis Nowell with 14 points and Moses Brown(near right) who was voted Sportsman of the Tournament scored 10 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and blocked 3 shots! The two teams advanced to the “Chip” on close Semifinals wins! Carey scored 33 points in an overtime win over Team Rio 66-62! Jalen Gaffney scored 19 points, Bryan Antoine added 18 points and Scottie Lewis finished with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocked shots for Rio! New Heights advanced by defeating the New England Playaz 66-60 as Nowell, Brown and Precious Achiuwa all starred in the game!

Jeremy Roach(left) scored 14 points and Jahmir Young finished with 10 points to lead Team takeover to a convincing 58-29 win over over the Playaz 16’s! Roach was chosen Tournament MVP and the Playaz Justin Winston(right) won the Sportsman award! Takeover reached the Finals by defeating the New England Playaz 48-18 and the Playaz reached the “Chip” defeating Team Rio 16’s 57-41 behind Winston’s 31 points!

The Rens Moussa Cisse  was a problem all weekend as he led the New York Rens  to a 15u title with a 44-40 win over Team Takeover! Cisse(far right) was the MVP of the Tournament, while Chuck Harris (near right) was Sportsman for Takeover!
