RAMAPO WINS COACHES VS. CANCER GREAT FALLS HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT!

009Kennedy HS, Paterson, NJ……. Ramapo pulled out a tight 63-62 win over St. Joseph Regional to capture the 1st annual Coaches vs. Cancer Holiday Tournament! Senior Mike Gostowski’s two free throws with 14 seconds left proved to be the clincher! Ramapo survived a short shot that rolled off the back of the rim for St. Joe’s at the buzzer! The game was tight from the jump as Ramapo held close leads throughout. Ramapo was being led by the Matt Boys, Senior Matt Grassi and Sophomore Matt Latka! Grassi was especially a problem scoring on an assortment of inside spin moves to the tune of008 24 points, besides grabbing 9 rebounds, dishing out 5 dimes with 3 steals! Latka finished with 19 points, including 4″triples” as the inside out game of the two players gave St. Joseph trouble in the halfcourt game! Junior Sean McKinless two free throws with 16 seconds left had given St. Joe’s a 62-61 lead, before Gostkowski’s heroics! Grassi(pictured with Kennedy Coach Jim Ring) was named MVP of the Tournament on top of scoring his 1,000th career point on a bucket with 7:52 of the 2nd quarter! St. Joe’s was led by McKinless and Junior Andrew McGuire with 16 points apiece and Senior Quai Jefferson with 14 points

Trenton Central had six players in double figures as they rolled past Kennedy 90-73 in the 3rd place game! Senior Nazier McCoy led the scoring wit006h 24 points. S007enior Brandon George scored 16 points, Senior Naiquon Ingram(right) had 14 points, Senior Kenar Gulley added 12 points to go with 8 rebounds and Senior Shaquan Worthy(left) and Junior Herbert Ellis each scored 11 points with Worthy also dishing out 9 assists! Trenton Central’s balanced scoring offset the 30 point game of Sophomore guard Alphonso Gee! The sharp shooting Gee was 12 for 18 from the floor with 4″triples’! Sophomore Charles Powell had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy!

Senior David Runcic(right) hit 6 treys in scoring 34 points to lift Columbia over Passaic County Tech 82-72! Passaic Tech was led by Senior Zaheem Beal with 27 points!
