St. Anthony’s  Saturday FallBall was made up of Friar players who aren’t playing regularly with the St. Anthony’s Varsity! But don’t be fooled, these boyd can play as they proved by becoming the surprising champs! They defeated the Nomads squad as St. Anthony’s was led  by Junior Darius Roundtree(pictured) with 12 points and a monster effort on the backboards and Sophomore Quamain Nelson with 10 points, as they and their teammates were able to withstand a late Nomads run! The Nomads were led by Sophomore Brandon Anderson with 17 points! St. Anthony’s got to the championship game by blowing out Union Catholic 49-23! Sophomore Javarious Hayes and Nelson each scored 11 points in the win! The Nomads made the finals by defeating Ramapo 58-50 as Anderson had 20 points and Junior Zak Olukanni finished with 13 points! While the Varsity Leagues were competitive and spirited,by far the most interesting sight was watching a crew of grammar school players compete against Freshman,Sophomore and at times Juniors in Highschool and not only hold their own but at times dominate! That’s what the Playaz 8th grade team did in the Sub Varsity League! Their average margin of victory was over 20 points a game in the League and as the season went on they got stronger! It did not change in the championship game against Bergen Catholic as they beat a solid team by “thirty” 62-32! Armoni Sexton and Jahvon Quinerly each scored 17 points, while Tavon Jones added 16 points in the impressive win! Listen out for this team in the future and many of their players will become major Highschool stars!
