With the Tournament Of Champions to begin on Friday due to the snow storm that paralyzed New Jersey Gardenstatehoops takes a look at the four teams competing with a chance to meet The Patrick School and Linden respectively in the Semi-Finals!021

                                                                                                DON BOSCO PREP  VS   VERONA

Don Bosco comes in with a tremendous win over St.Augustine and plenty of momentum! Verona opened a lot of eyes with it’s dismantling of Woodbury!

047

Don Bosco is led by Junior Marcellus Earlington and Senior Chris Paul, but has become a committee type team as they have been getting it from any and every key player! Senior Charlie Bagin was the star of the St.Augustine game as he made up for the lost of Earlington and Paul who both fouled out! Junior Ron Harper has become a bigtime player for DBP and his maturation is probably the most important factor in how impressive a squad they have become! Senior Chris Lovisolo is a deadly three point shooter who will make you pay if left open! Senior Manley Dorme and Junior Matt Herasme are huge contributors off the bench! Sophomore Victor Konopka and Junior’s Jeremiah Paul and Michael Concannon also give quality minutes when called upon!

Verona is led by Senior Forward Travis Jocelyn who had a big game in the Group 1 “Chip” vs Woodbury with 30 points! Verona is a veteran squad with 13 Seniors so they will not be intimidated or surprised by anything Prep gives them! Senior’s Matt and Zach Zaccone and Junior Mike Zecchino are the other primary scorers as Zecchino is fearless going to the cup! The engine for this team rides with Senior guard Jack Farrell who is a quality leader!

Predictions:  Verona will hang tough in the 1st half, but Don Bosco Prep will wear down the Hillbillies and win this game going away! Don Bosco Prep  80     Verona 62

                                                                                            TEANECK VS WEST SIDE

The Group 3 vs Group 2 game featuring Teaneck and West Side is a rematch of last years game which was won by Teaneck! Both teams lost a key component as Teaneck lost Juwaun Daniels and West Side lost the dynamic Isaiah Reyes!

060

Teaneck has as good a backcourt as their is in the State with Senior Leondre Washington and Junior Ja’Quaye James and they will need both to be on top of their game in order to to beat a tough West Side squad! Senior Adrian Baucom has emerged as a go to type player who is playing at a high level! Junior Corey Gordon is their glue guy in the paint and Senior 7 footer Pierre Sow will have to be a factor in this game as he must use his length near the basket, especially on the defensive end! The athletic Jayden Dawson who can be an offensive spark and rugged Korey Pettie who is a tough rebounder and defender are solid players off the bench!

West Side is Newark tough and brings that fearless attitude onto the court! Senior Quayon Willia055ms-King is their leader, but Senior Yasim Hooker is more than capable of taking over the spotlight! This year’s big addition has been the play of Newark Eastside transfer Quaion Taylor who has been tremendous in the post for the Roughriders! Sophomore James Bell gives West Side quality minutes and Freshman Kirk Parsons is a star waiting to happen! Senior Alif Beyah Jr., Junior Shahidaquan McGee and Sophomore Ka’ronn Boundurant provide the bench strength!

Prediction: This game will go down to the wire and may at times get ugly! How Williams-King and Hooker respond to the high scoring duo of Washington and James and how Teaneck handles the play of Taylor down low will dictate this contest! In the end it says here the Highwaymen again sneak past West Side!  Teaneck  65   West Side  61
