“WE GOT NEXT” TOURNAMENT HAS HAWKS WIN 2017 AND PLAYAZ WIN 2016 TITLES!

024Kennedy H.S.,Paterson,NJ… In the last Playaz sponsored A.A.U Tournament, the” We Got Next” event had two days of intense play by the Class of 2016 and 2017. The 2017 title game was won by the Hawks, while the 2016 game was won by the Playaz Red! The 2017 games were hotly contested as the Hawks team which consisted of the Hudson Catholic impressive freshman class going up against the Playaz White team which features one of the best 8th grade AAU teams in the State squared off in the “Chip”! Freshman Patrick Stryzala(far right) scored 17 points, made all the key plays his team needed and was named Player Of the Tournament as he led the Hawks to a 60-54 over the Playaz White! Anthony Nelson also had a strong Tournament for the Hawks and finished with023 10 points! The Playaz were led by Armoni Sexton with 19 points and Jahvon Quinerly(Sportsman award) with 17! The Hawks got a bye in the semifinals while The Playaz White got to the Championship by beating Team Takeover 56-52. Quinerly(right) and Sexton were the key players in that game with big help from point guard Ja’Quaye James! Quinerly’s”triple”late in the game, Sexton’s hustle plays from end to end and James quarterbacking the team down the stretch gave them the come from behind win! 

 

                                                  

                                                                            

                                                                    

 

 

                                                                                            WE GOT NEXT ” CHIP”

In this contest which consisted of 7 of the top 20 players in NJ Hoops.com top 100 Sophomores, the Playaz Red team pulled off the 82-71 vict029ory over the Nomads which consisted of the Playaz Black team playing up with help from #5 NJ Hoops ranked Myles Powell! Jagen Mosely led the scoring with 27 points on an assortment of m027oves to the rim, while Pat Andree contributed 16 points and Caleb Bishop added 15! The Playaz Red needed all of it as the talented Nomads led by Powell was up for the task! Powell finished with 25 points, while Freshman Jamir Harris scored 18 points, Freshman Trevon Duval scored 14 points and Freshman Marcus McClary added 12! Mosely(far left) was the Player of Tournament, while Powell(left) received the Sportsman award! The Nomads reached the “Chip” by defeating the Gym Ratz while the Playaz Red had to beat a game Milbank of Harlem team 73-56 though the game was closer than the score indicated! They had a total team effort in the game as Mosely had 16, Alphonso Gee scored 16 and Andree and James Scott each scored 15!

  NOTES: The Playaz 8th grade team had a tremendous weekend playing four games Saturday, winning them all then reaching the championship on Sunday! They then tripped to New York for another game.If this team continues to put in the work they have a chance to do some special things!
