Englewood,NJ….Hoop Journal covered the Dwight Morrrow Basketball Showcase ran by Dwight Morrow Coach Ozzie Osbourne and witnessed three games live and had the results of all five! At the end of the night Hawthorne Christian, Saddle River Day,Kennedy,St.Mary of Rutherford and DePaul all ended up victorious!

 

 

 

 

                                                         KENNEDY 52             MONSIGNOR SCANLON H. S.(NY) 49

       Freshman Alphonso Gee scored 18 points and Senior Shervon St.Louis grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Kennedy to an exciting 52-49 win over Monsignor Scanlon of New York! with Kennedy ahead 25-22 at the half, they started the 3rd quarter on a 8-0 run to seem to take control of the contest! Mut Scanlon would not go away and took the lead 42-41 on a layup by Freshman George Pena with 5:10 left in the 4th! At that point it was a back and forth game the rest of the way! Kennedy went 5 of 6 from the fouline at the end of the game as Gee made two, Senior Justin Kinchen hit two and Senior Hassan Townes made one! Townes finished with 12 points for the Knights! Pena led Scanlon with 14 points, while Senior John Dewey added 12 points to go with 8 dimes! Gee and Pena were voted players of the game respectively!( Pena and Gee with Coach Ozzie)

St. Mary had a 30-14 halftime lead and took as much as a 19 point lead in the 2nd half. but Indian Hills fought back to tie the game at 46 on a bucket plus a foul from Junior Noah Menner! St. Mary regrouped and won the game down the stretch behind the play of Senior point guard Shawn Johnson who went 4 for 5 from the foulline to pull it out! Senior Josh Davis led St. Mary with 19 points, Junior Keith Bacote scored 12 points and 9 rebounds and Johnson contributed 11 points, 8 dimes and 4 steals! Indian Hills was led by Junior Matt Jensen with 15 points and Senior Robbie Cariddi scored 12! Jensen and Davis were voted players of the game for their respective teams!

Senior Tyler Hoskins could not miss in DePaul’s 67-47 win over Cresskill! Constantly left alone, Hoskins made them pay time after time! He hit 6″triples” and scored 23 points in the game! Junior Juwaun Carter added 15 points with 8 rebounds, Senior Sanders Green scored 11 points with 4 steals and Freshman Jordan Thomas finished with 12 for DePaul! Cresskill was led by Senior Dominick Wilson with 19 points and Senior Alex DeCandia with 14 points and 9 rebounds! Hoskins and Wilson were players of the game for their respective squads! Hoskins was also DePaul’s Academic award winner!

 

 

 

 

 

                        SADDLE RIVER DAY  63                VALLEY STREAM CENTRAL(NY)  52003

 

Saddle River Day got 28 points from Junior Greg King and 9 points apiece from Junior Chris Cosgrove and Sophomore Alex Stein as they defeated Valley Stream Central 63-52! Valley Stream was led by Senior Lwimba Mukuka with 18 points and 14 points from Senior Xavier Grier! King and Mukuka were the players of the game for their respective teams!

 

 

 

 

In the last contest, Hawthorne Christian defeated West Milford  53-43!!!! As mentioned each team also has an Academic Award Winner which is the essence of the Showcase in the eyes of Coach Osbourne!!!!!

RIDGEWOOD BLASTS GARFIELD 67-53!!

001Garfield, NJ……… Senior Nick Simone(right) scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds and Junior Tim Nolan(left) scored 13 points,dished out 7 dimes and they got plenty of help from their friends as Ridgewood got it from everyone in their win over 002Garfield 67-43! Ridgewood opened the game up through their second unit as they took a 13-11 1st quarter lead and extended it to 33-21 at the half! Ridgewood caused havoc on Garfield’s offense,creating an abundance of turnovers! They extended the lead in the 3rd by outscoring Garfield 21-13 in the quarter to push the lead to 54-34! Garfield came into the game with a 7-1 record, while Ridgewood came in at 4-4! You couldn’t tell!  Senior Chris Solis(8 rebounds) and Junior Jon Davila( 7 points) were especially involved as Ridgewood’s top ten players all scored in the contest! Junior Corrie Brown led Garfield with 17 points and 5 assists and Junior Kevin Buron finished with 12!

PASSAIC TECH”TRIPLES” WEARS ON WAYNE VALLEY 67-44!

001Wayne, NJ…..Passaic Tech out shot Wayne Valley 10-2 from the three line as they pulled away in t002he 2nd half for a 67-44 win! Junior guard Victavious Mitchell(right) made 5 of 6″triples” for the game as he scored 15 points and also 4 steals! Senior guard Isaac Williams(left) paced the scoring with 19 and Junior guard Zaheem Beal scored 10 points with 3 blocked shots! Junior Brevon Brevard was the key distributor for Tech as he had 7 dimes in the game! Wayne Valley led after the 1st 15-14 and was only down one at the half 24-23 as Junior Liam Connors had 14 points at the half! Tech outscored WV 24-8 in the 3rd to take control of the game as Mitchell and Beal each hit a couple more treys in the quarter to help push the lead!! Connors was held to 3 2nd half points to finish with 17 for the game with 7 rebounds! Senior Andrew Keene scored 8 points with 9 boards and Senior Josh Rigolioso had 6 assists for Wayne Valley! Passaic Tech improved to 7-4 for the season!
