Passaic Tech Outlasts Wayne Hills 58-45!

Passaic TechWayne, N.J……. Passaic County Tech extended a one point halftime lead and finally took down a game Wayne Hills 58-45! Junior Isaac Williams(right) led Tech with 21 points and Senior Shackquiel Scott(left) added 19 points, including a couple of impressive dunks! Wayne Hills started slow, trailing 10-0 with 2:07 left in the 1st quarter! But they got their head into it and played tough the rest of the half at one point taking a 19-18 lead on a steal and layup by Senior Darius Haber! Tech took control in the 2nd half, extending the lead to as much as 15!Williams and Scott got out on a number of fastbreaks off turnovers! Senior Jarrett Sykes added 8 points and 8 rebounds for Tech! Wayne Hills was led by Sophomore Scott Wills with 15 points and 4 assists! Wills is a poised point guard who seems to have a big upside! Will be hearing alot about him in the future! Haber finished with 10 points! 

DePaul Gets Past Don Bosco Prep 67-58!

Wayne, N.J…….Down 10 at the half, DePaul came out with a fire that was hard for Don Bosco Prep to match! They were led by an outstanding performance from Sophomore guard Juwuan Carter! Carter stepped up big time by tying a career high with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals! He scored 14 points in the 2nd half! Junior Josh Marquez played a solid game with 18 points,6 rebounds,8 assists and 4 steals! He, Carter and Sophomore Kiy Hester(10pts,4stls) were relentless on the defensive end and forced a number of turnovers! DePaul went into the 4th up 45-44, but Prep was not finished playing! They took the lead again 55-54 with 5:04 left on Sophomore Paul Jorgenson’s free throws! From there DePaul took the lead on a Hester layup and held on the rest of the way! Senior Davon Jacobs added 11 points and grabbed 6 boards for DePaul! Jorgenson led the way with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Rutgers football recruit Leonte Carroo chipped in 11 points with 7 rebounds for Prep! DePaul improved to 10-1 while Prep fell to 8-3!

FREEDOM FIGHTERS REVUE!

     Paterson, New Jersey……. The Playaz sponsored Freedom Fighters Hoop Challenge had four good contests as St. Peters Prep, Hudson Catholic, Paterson Eastside and Newark Eastside came away with victories!

 

 

                                           HUDSON CATHOLIC  44         ROSELLE  CATHOLIC  42

 

       Junior Mike Young’s basket off an inbounds pass at the buzzer gave Hudson Catholic a thrilling 44-42 win over Roselle Catholic! After Roselle’s Senior Chris Gross made a layup to tie the score with 8 seconds, Hudson kept possession with 1 second left and called the inbounds play! Young(pictured left) finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds and Junior Reggie Cameron added 12 points and 10 rebounds! Stony Brook commit 6’7 Jameel Warney(pictured right) led Roselle Catholic with 16 points and 18 rebounds and Gross finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds! 6’7 Junior Tyler Roberson made his season debut and even though he showed flashes of his brilliance, he got into foul trouble and never got completely in the game! He finished with 3 points and 8 rebounds!

         Junior Sean Cummings scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in leading St. Peters Prep to a 68-51 win over Newark Tech! Prep also got impressive games from guards Sophomore Austin White and Sophomore Trevis Wyche! White had 15 points and 5 assists and Wyche had 14 points and 3 dimes! Newark Tech was led by Senior guard Desmond Cotton with all 18 of his points coming in the 2nd half and 6 assists and Junior Jared Hall with 17 points! Cummings(right) and Cotton(left) were chosen players of the game for their respective teams! 

 

 

                                        PATERSON EASTSIDE  55        POPE JOHN  44

 

 Senior DeAndre Noble-Haywood(pictured left) scored 22 points and Senior Ky’re Jackson grabbed 11 rebounds to go with 9 points as Eastside beat Pope John 55-44! Pope John led 26-24 at the end of the 1st half, but the Ghosts defense finally wore them down in the 2nd half! Pope john made a run late, but Senior Nassir Crawford went 6 for 6 down the stretch to help secure the win! Senior Jaquan Bryant(right) led Pope John with 10 points, while Senior Glen Gavan added 9! 

 

 

 

                                               NEWARK EASTSIDE  53               KENNEDY  35

 

    Senior Aaron Boddie(left) was too much to handle down low for Kennedy in Newark Eastside’s 53-35 win! Boddie scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds! Newark Eastside dominated the boards, outrebounding Kennedy 35 to 16! Senior guard Jamal Reid added 8 points and 7 assists for Eastside! Senior Sammy Singletary(right) led Kennedy with 20 points and Hassan townes scored 5 points, but was active all over the floor defensively with 4 steals! Junior Ismael Sanogo was busy for Newark Eastside with 9 points and 7 boards and 6’7 Sophomore Abdul Lewis came off the bench to score 10 points!
